I sit down at the $300 max buy-in game the other night and scan the players at the table.
The average chip stack is $200 except for one young gun with about $800.
He and I make eye contact. I immediately move to an open seat so I have position on him.
My strategy is to stay out of his pots until I get even in chips with him. Then felt him.
I am making $200 profit an hour for three hours. Time to make my move on the young gun.
The first pot we are in together, I flop a set of 4s and take half his chips.
Up until now, my play has been great. Reads are accurate. Played position. Played the players. And won every pot I was in.
A new player sits down on my left.
Next hand I get pocket 10s.
The young gun and the new player are in the pot.
Why the new player called $50 pre-flop is beyond me. But he did.
The flop comes K-10-8. All hearts.
The young gun bets out $50.
I reraise to $150.
The new guy makes it $250 to go.
The young gun folds and shows A-K.
I call knowing a flush has me beat. But is the new guy on a flush draw?
My gut says I need fourth street or fifth street to pair the board to win.
No more hearts come, but the board does not pair either.
I call off another $200.
I should have folded on the flop, but I had a loss of control.
The new guy shows A-6. Hearts. He flopped the nut flush.
Three hours of profit wiped out in three minutes.
